Michelle Maloy Dillon, Photographer
Michelle Maloy Dillon began her creative career as a painting major at the University of Colorado. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, where she studied photojournalism at Columbia College under Pulitzer Prize winner, John H. White. She gained photography experience working for Lerner Newspapers, and has been a member of the Professional Photographer's Association and the National Press Photographer's Association since 1991. In 2005, she gained admission into the Wedding Photojournalist Association. She continues to utilize that photojournalist's eye in her work, while drawing upon the extensive knowledge of composition instilled in her from many years of painting.

Michelle quickly developed a passion for photographing people, as she apprenticed under a number of very talented wedding and portrait photographers around the Chicago area. It wasn't long before she began to venture out on her own, shooting her first wedding in 1992. Now based in Boulder, Colorado, Michelle continues to specialize in photojournalistic wedding and portrait photography. Michelle believes that the key to great people photography is to develop a great rapport with her subjects. "A sense of trust between the photographer and the subject is very important to getting great photos", says Michelle in an interview in Denver's 1999 issue of Confetti magazine. She wants people to feel very comfortable with her, especially on a wedding day, one of the most imortant days of their lives.

When people come to look at Michelle's work, she likes to get to know them as well as she can, so that they can determine together what kind of pictures and location will capture their personality and interests the best. She also tells them to try to get to know how she see things. "When you hire a photographer, you are hiring their eye. My hope is for you to have an emotional response to the work that you're seeing, even though you're looking at photos of someone else's day. Each photo shoot is different depending on the personalities involved, the lighting, and the location."

Michelle currently works out of her home office and studio in South Boulder, where she lives with her husband and two children. When she manages to get a weekend free, she enjoys hiking and camping up in the mountains, and playing around with the latest model that Canon has to offer.
